Many months before our wedding we began house hunting in the hopes of being homeowners right after saying “I do.” After viewing countless homes with endless problems, the home search was turning into our worst nightmare. Each house had something wrong with it…I was beginning to feel like Goldilocks, but I just couldn’t find the house that fit just right. With only two months before the big day we walked into the a charming house on the corner of Main St. It was almost like trying on my wedding dress for the first time; I just knew this had to be our home. It was absolutely perfect! A two story colonial with three beautiful bedrooms, 1.5 baths, hardwood floors, a fireplace in the large living room, a bright sun room, an eat in kitchen, a full basement, and a lovely dining room with built-in china cabinets and a fabulous crystal chandelier (my favorite room in the house); oh, and how could I forget that the back door leads to a two level deck overlooking a 1/2 acre! We submitted an offer the next day and were crossing our fingers for a quick turnaround. The house was listed as a short sale; we heard rumors to stay away from short sales because they take a very long time to come to a close. This house had our name written all over it, and we couldn’t just walk away!
Our dream wedding and honeymoon came and went (you can read more about that under the “Our Wedding” page)…
We moved back into our tiny condo in the city; we felt like hoarders with all our wedding gifts piled to the ceiling. I seriously could not wait for the day when I could unpack my pretty new china and sparkly crystal and put it all in the delightful china cabinets on Main St.
I don’t want to draw this out as long as the bank did, so let’s fast forward six months. Yes, it took six long months for this short sale process to come to a close, but it was worth every minute! We moved in right after closing (during the big blizzard of 2011), and we finally feel like we are home!
