After Monday’s post about our new dishwasher I have been dreaming about what to do with our kitchen. Basically our kitchen is two separate parts. The first half of the kitchen has the appliances and what appears to be the original cabinets, which have probably been painted over a dozen times. Warning: old pics coming up…
The other half of the kitchen is the tiny eating area and additional cabinet and counter space that was added more recently.
Ha, I just realized the blind in the sunroom in the background looks like a hot mess (as well as the tags on the seat cushions, but oh well). Those blinds are long gone, and we now have pretty clean ones that actually fit the windows!
As far as the kitchen goes, obviously a lot has to be changed, and who knows if and when we will get to any of it, but a girl can dream, right?
Let’s start with the cabinets. I am loving the look of two toned cabinets (all pics via Pinterest-and thanks to a tip I have the sources below).

What do you think? Light gray or white on top and a medium shade of gray on the bottom? Would this look like too much gray next to our blue-gray dining room? The other option would be white on top and a light khaki color on the bottom.
I also like the white subway tile backsplash. I know it is so popular, but it looks so clean. I think I would do gray grout instead of white though.
And the flooring, boy oh boy, do we need new floors! The terra cotta tile is sooooo bad. Thankfully this (and the connecting 1/2 bath) is the only room that needs new floors. Kevin and I love the look of this:

It’s porcelain tile made to look like wood; it’s genius!
I would also love to have a cozy little breakfast nook…

I think the breakfast nook is the perfect solution to our cramped eating area. I’m picturing a round table and possibly a built in bench…
So much to think about! Hopefully we can make some of these dreams come true ![]()
What have you been dreaming about lately? Your house, family, going on vacation? I can definitely talk about some vacation dreams, but I don’t want to bore you!
Have a fantastic weekend!

To get sources on pictures, just drag the picture into your Google search box (which is usually beside the URL box in your internet browser) then click “search by image”. Hope that helps.
Love the inspiration kitchens and yours has tons of potential!
Have a great weekend!

Kelly I love your ideas. Seriously! I think I like the 3rd picture with the khaki on the bottom the best. and those breakfast nooks are adorable. I could definitely see that in your space. Sometimes I wish our cabinets were old and painted so I could repaint and do whatever I wanted with them, but they’re really nice maple. I just don’t like the color of the wood.

I think the two toned cabinets would look fabulous in your kitchen! It could add such depth to the space. I always trend dark, so don’t ask me which shade of gray… I just say go for it!

Love the two toned look! It’s a favourite style of mine right now (I work in kitchen design). The little breakfast nook with built in bench is adorable! Hope you can see this dream through some day!!

I love the little breakfast nook. Built in benches mean more storage too!

That’s true, it is classic. Plus my husbands friend bought way too much for his bathroom and he said we could have it, score!

I’m loving two toned cabinets right now too!! I am going to try them out for my “in the meantime” kitchen fix and see if I love them enough to do them when we do our permanent renovation. Subway is the way to go – especially if it’s free!
