We finally have paint and crown molding in the nursery! Kevin has been working hard on getting the nursery ready. It was quite a chore painting over the previously pinky-peach walls with this beautiful navy blue.
I know it is kind of dark, and not exactly “baby-ish” but I like how the bold blue pops against the white wood work. What do you think? It’s Benjamin Moore Old Navy (we usually use BM Aura).
Let’s rewind, and look at what the room has gone through in the last year…
After I organized my office/craft room:
After we cleared out the room last month Kevin had a lot of prep work to do before painting: filling holes, adding nails to the poorly hung chair rail, scraping lose paint off the radiators, and fixing some window panes. All that took a lot of time. Soon enough he was able to prime everything, paint the ceiling, and then put up the navy blue.
We really love the look of crown molding, so Kevin was set on adding some to our little man’s new room. We picked out molding that is very similar to that in our master bedroom (which Kevin also put up by himself). Both rooms have decorative pieces in the corner (it looks great and makes it much easier to cut and put up)…
So, here is another peek at the room after paint and molding:
So what’s next on the list?
- sand and paint filled nail holes in molding
- build, paint and install radiator covers
- paint lower portion of the room (white) and woodwork
- change light fixture (which we got last week and it is super cute!)
- touch up ceiling around fixture
- build, paint and install book ledges
- purchase and hang window shades
- figure out/make and hang window valances or curtains
- assemble crib
- carry 9,000 lb wood dresser upstairs (that is gonna be tough)
- decorate and organize!
I hope we finish before the baby arrives!
So what’s next on your list? What do you think of the dark blue paint? Would you go that bold?

The color is lovely! A very bold choice, but I think it looks great with the white woodwork.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love that color. It seriously looks amazing! I think your little man will be very happy in there! Our list is still finish cleaning out the nursery lol! We have all of the furniture set up and in place, but the rest of the room is still very much a haven for anything else! Hopefully you can get someone else to help with the 9000 lb dresser, I bet since it is an antique it is a solid hunk of wood!

I am loving the navy and white together! I think if the whole room was navy it would be too dark but the lower half being white really makes the blue pop! Cant wait to see this room come together!

I love the color, especially with the white. It is a little dark, but I think as long as you bring in brighter colors it will be fine.

I love navy, so it gets a thumbs up from me.
And for some reason I always think I am subscribed to your blog, but then I don’t get updates. Here’s hoping I am really subscribed this time.

Oh man! I think there is something wrong with the subscription feature. My mom had told me it doesn’t work. Shoot…and of course I have no idea how to fix it.

I LOVE it Kelly! It’s so different from the pastel thing and I love that! I bet your little guy will sleep great with it being dark in there. The molding looks great too.

I love this color! We have a similar one in Junior’s room, but his trim is also black, so it’s pretty dark in there – but I like it.

Love the navy! I’ve been painting our bathroom a similar shade and am almost done!

Love, love, love it!! I don’t think it’s too dark at all. It’s perfect. Can’t wait to see the rest!!

Love the color! The white molding works really well and off balances the navy blue. It’s going to look beautiful

I love the color! It’s so rich and fun for a little one. And, okay, I’m pretty smitten with navy.
